Johnny Depp To Star in Dark Shadows Movie!

He's made us love Pirates, bad movie directors and guys with scissors for hands. Now Johnny Depp wants to make us all fall in love with vampires again. He's set to take the lead in a film adaptation of '60s TV show Dark Shadows, as vampire paterfamilias Barnabas Collins.
The original series was a sort of Gothic soap opera based around a creepy old mansion where a young girl arrives to work as a governess. She soon learns that all is not well there, and gradually over the course of more than 1,200 episodes strange goings on from time travel to gypsy curses to werewolf activity proved that that's probably a bit of an understatement.
Depp has said before in interviews that he was obsessed with the show as a kid, and wanted to be Barnabas Collins as a child - so looks like he's got there at last. He's developing the film with Warner Bros and producer Graham King and his own production company, but it's a little way down his To Do list. He's just wrapped Sweeney Todd and still has Shantaram in development, as well as a project about murdered spy Alexander Litvenenko.
Interestingly, among the other celebrities who have expressed a fondness for the show over the years (Madonna, for example) is one T. Burton. Could this be another chance for the hetero-life partners to work together? Only time will tell...
