Dark Shadows: The Beginning on DVD
Posted by Paul on August 28,2007:
Relive the first Gothic soap opera television series before Vampire Barnabas arrives in DARK SHADOWS: THE BEGINNING.

Arrives on DVD for the First Time!

Available on August 28, 2007

Chicago, IL (August 2, 2007) – MPI Home Video is proud to announce the DVD release of the 1966 soap opera that found its own unique place in TV immortality, DARK SHADOWS. Mixing together high camp and gothic horror into the moribund soap formula, DARK SHADOWS quickly gathered a fanatical audience so large that TV Guide called the series one of the 25 greatest cult shows of all time. With its alluring tales of Gothic mystery and supernatural intrigue, DARK SHADOWS earned the reputation as being one of the most unusual and enduring programs in broadcasting history.

Now, for the first time on DVD, MPI Home Video presents the spooky series' rare, early episodes before the arrival of Barnabas. This collection includes the first 35 half-hours that had kids running home from school to catch each episode. Among the highlights to this collection is the complete unedited premier episode, with its original commercials. DARK SHADOWS: THE BEGINNING (DVD Collection 1) will be available for an SRP of $59.98.

The creation of legendary producer Dan Curtis, DARK SHADOWS tells the tragic tale of the Collins family, a seemingly white lace patriarchal dynasty that ran a dark New England town out of their family estate, appropriately called Collinwood. Into this world enters young nanny Victoria (Alexandra Moltke), who soon learns there's a lot more to this family than initially meets the eye .

The series would then go into overdrive when a mysterious relative, Barnabas (Jonathan Frid) moves into the dilapidated estate next door. Soon the household is beset with all manners of classic monsters, including werewolves, witches and ghosts.

Synopsis

Victoria Winters' mysterious journey begins as her train arrives in Collinsport, a small and stormy fishing village on the coast of Maine. An orphan in search of her identity, Victoria is befriended by a stranger named Burke Devlin. At the eerie Collinwood mansion, Victoria meets reclusive matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, her aloof brother Roger Collins, his troubled ten-year-old son David, and Elizabeth's rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn. Collins fishing fleet manager Bill Malloy informs Elizabeth that Burke wants to take everything the Collinses own as revenge for being sent to prison. Collinsport Inn waitress Maggie Evans tells her father Sam that she wants an end to the secret conflict between him, Roger and Burke. David warns Victoria that she will regret that she came to live at Collinwood and be his governess.
